What is ACE?
- ACE was established in 2005 to be the housing development arm of A- HOME (Apropos Housing Opportunities and Management Enterprises). It is a separate 501(c)(3)with an added mission to educate the region about the needs for affordable housing. Since filing and receiving its 501(c)(3) status, A.C.E. has also filed for, and was accepted, as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). ACE has the ability to operate in both Westchester and Putnam counties and does community development work to augment housing development.
- The CHDO certification allows ACE to receive Federal HOME money for the development of fair and affordable housing from the State or County, and also requires a board of directors that has low income residents as board members. One third of ACE board members represent low income individuals from the community, leading to a very diverse board. For the last year plus, under the leadership of Peter Russell, former A-HOME president, the ACE board has also met regularly and empowered its members.
- Former A-HOME Executive Director, Joan Arnold retains her title of executive director of ACE, with her ability to focus on development of projects and advocacy issues.
